Resume

Joseph R. Pasek

Objectives: I have a very large amount of experience in a range of engineering areas – GPS navigation system, software development (C/C++, FORTRAN95, RTOS, Linux, UNIX), embedded systems development, DSP (Digital Signal Processing) applications, simulation/modeling for R&D efforts, control systems applications, and most recently for a large effort in the military communication systems area. While working the military communication systems effort I also performed various management roles for that effort. I am searching for a senior engineering position in R&D, GPS navigation systems, simulation/modeling or DSP applications effort. I excel on the analysis side of the effort and when needed I have exploited my applied mathematics, physics, and electrical engineering backgrounds. My experience and leadership skills, in addition to my ability to work independently or as part of a team, makes me an excellent candidate for a senior role in an engineering effort.

Education: M.S. Electrical Engineering with systems option - (emphasis in
Communications and Controls), California State University,
Fullerton,
B.A. Mathematics - University of California at Irvine

Additional graduate school work in physics, applied mathematics, and
engineering at Cal State Long Beach, Cal. State Fullerton, and the
University of California at Irvine.

Recent Engineering Certificates:
Communication Systems Engineering Certificate (University of California,
Irvine), awarded June, 2008
Specialized Studies Certificate DSP Systems Engineering (University of
California, Irvine), awarded June, 2009
Embedded Systems Engineering Certificate (University of California,
Irvine), awarded March, 2010

These certificates are the result of taking courses that required 13 weeks for each course taken. Two of the certificates also required more than five courses to get the engineering certificate . The overall GPA = 3.8 out of 4.0

Computer languages employed: C/C++, FORTRAN95+, Python

Operating systems used: LINUX (Fedora, SUSE), Solaris, MS Windows 7, mC/OS, various RTOS

Engineering/Software Tools Experience: Object-Oriented Analysis/Design (OOAD), MATLAB /Simulink (R2009), MathCAD (V14), NS2, UML2, STK, Embedded software development tool, TI's TMS320XX Code Composer Studio DSP C and assembly IDE, Motorola’s (Freescale) DSP56XXX assembly and C, GNU Radio - SDR using USRP boards, Qt4 GUI, Perl, Python

Processor Experience: Freescale’s Coldfire and DSP568xx Processors, Atmel’s AVR32 and Atmega processors, TI’s TMS320C55xx, TMS320C67xx, Xilinx’s Spartan 3A FPGA, Altera’s Cyclone II FPGA, ARM processors from several different manufacturers (TI, Atmel, etc), TI's OMAP 35xx processor

Security: Secret

License: Amateur Radio Operator (Extra class) KM6JA

Project areas: Recently designed and implemented specialized embedded processor based test and utility hardware for JTRS-GMR program, a software defined radio and computer networks technology, Directional Antenna Applications for Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANET), developed a electro-optic IR trackers/seekers – for a EO pod for the F18 aircraft, various DSP applications (mechanical vibration analyser, image processing and recognition for both military and commercial applications), Orbital mechanics (astrodynamics), GPS ground control segment, image understanding and classification – target acquisition and tracking, Kalman filters – various applications, simulations, image generation, GPS ground control segment – FAA's WAAS program, software design, system engineering and analysis. I have also been a community college instructor in several areas – physics, mathematics (calculus - 2nd year), software programming, and astronomy for a total of eight years.

Experience:

March, 2001 to June, 2014 – Systems Engineer V, Boeing, Huntington Beach, California
- Was originally hired by Boeing to work on the GPSIII navigation satellite
effort that was delayed and Boeing lost the effort in 2008. I was hired
because of my work on the FAA's Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS)
effort at Raytheon.
- At Boeing performed a range of engineering functions ranging from writing
engineering proposals, engineering white papers, performed research and
development efforts, communications systems test and integration and
software development over a range of applications.
- The last function at Boeing dealt with both performing RF path analysis
over various terrains and design of a field test based system for the
training of military users of the CSEL program's hand-held radios.
- For the Joint Tactical Radio System – Ground Mobile Radio (JTRS GMR)
program, a software defined radio system for the US Army, which included
the hardware/software integration and test effort for a four year period.
- Both developed or modified various test and field support hardware and
related software for testing in the integration lab and in the field.
- Also developed the hardware and all of the software for a embedded
processor based box to load crypto-codes and provide the power and monitoring
the device being loaded, this accommodated early versions of the JTRS
GMR’s NIU box crypto code load functions. This last effort lead to a
limited production run to support the DoD's Future Combat System (FCS)
Program deploying the early models of the JTRS.
- Developed, using MATLAB and tools provided by Agilent, a means of
producing waveforms for Agilent’s Vector Signal Processors for the JTRS
effort.
- For the Integrated Missile Defence (IMD) Program performed integration of
simulations written in different computer languages for the program's
simulation efforts. Some of the languages employed - Java, FORTRAN 95,
MATLAB scripts (.m files), and C/.C++. The goal of the effort was to
link together all the simulations together under a MATLAB-like framework
to permit assessment of various missile defence technologies in a single
software test-bed setup.
- Generated a study for the JTRS-AMF proposal effort in the areas of
message/data translation between existing military communication systems
incorporated into the JTRS-AMF proposal effort.
- Also researched network protocols for military/tactical wireless network
employing directional antennas to improve network capacity. This work
also included examination of terrestrial path loss issues and the use of
applicable directional antennas to enhance link maintenance especially for
high capacity links.
- Performed communication link budget analysis for proposed maintenance of
satellites in earth orbit for the...
